What is QSFP?
QSFP is also known as Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable. All specifications have been verified by the supplier. The supplier has released all modules, connectors and cages. It supports up to 40 Gb/s/port. Each port has the ability to support four independent channels. Speed range up to 10 Gb/s/lane. In the near future, optical modules will support the kind of speeds we expect. Today, QSFP connectors and cages are combined so it can operate at 10GB/s in short reach applications and backplanes. In late 2007, 8 and 10 Gb/s modules were introduced along with QSFP optical modules running 5Gb/s.

Facts about QSFP?
QSFP modules provide the world's highest pluggable bandwidth density. Since May 2013, the format specification has been evolving every day to enable higher data rates. The highest possible rate is 4x28 Gbit/s. It is also known as QSFP28. Now QSFP can accommodate Fibre Channel, Ethernet, infiband and SONET/SDH. With these standards, it offers different data rate options.

Different kinds of QSFP
Today, you will find that each QSFP transceiver has its own transmitter and receiver type. It helps users choose the right transceiver for each link. It then provides the desired optical range via multimode or single mode fiber. You will find different classes of QSFP modules on the market today. Some of them are:

1. 4 x 1 Gbit/s QSFP
It consists of four channels capable of carrying Gigabit Ethernet, 4GFC (Fibre Channel) or DDR InfiniBand. All this information is mentioned in the original QSFP document.

2. 4 x 10Gbit/s QSFP+
This transceiver is a modified version of QSFP. It supports four 10 Gbit/sec lanes carrying 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 10GFC Fibre Channel or QDR InfiniBand. Vendors added the benefit of adding 4 lanes and combining them into a single 40 Gigabit Ethernet link. Generally, it is only made for the application of communication standards such as data center, 40G Ethernet, Infiniband, etc.

3. 4 x 14 Gbit/s QSFP+ (QSFP14)
This QSFP+ is for simple purposes only. That doesn't mean it has no value. It is designed to bring FDR InfiniBand, SAS-3. [7] or 16G Fibre Channel into full functionality.

4. 4 x 28 Gbit/s QSFP+ (QSFP28)

It is designed to carry 100 Gigabit Ethernet, EDR InfiniBand or 32G Fibre Channel. This transceiver can also be connected with a straight-through cable. This 100Gbe fits into four separate 25 Gb Ethernet ports. These transceivers are also known as "QSFP100" or "100G QSFP".
