OADM is one of the key components of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) optical networks, which can selectively receive and transmit some wavelength channels from the transmission optical path without affecting the transmission of other wavelength channels.
The general OADM node can be represented by a four-port model, and the basic functions include three kinds: the wavelength channel required by the lower channel, the multiplexing of the on-road signal, so that other wavelength channels can pass as far as possible without being affected. The specific working process of OADM is as follows: The WDM signal from the line contains N wavelength channels and enters the "Main Input" end of OADM. According to the service requirements, the required wavelength channel is selectively output from the lower end (Drop) and the required wavelength channel is input from the upper end (Add). Other locally independent wavelength channels pass directly through the OADM and are multiplexed together with the on-road wavelength channel to be Output from the Main Output of the OADM.
