G.652 Definition of Optical fibers:

G.652 fiber, also known as standard single-mode fiber (SMF), refers to the dispersion zero (that is, the wavelength at which the dispersion is zero) of the fiber near 1310nm. The dispersion coefficient in the 1550nm window is positive. At wavelength 1550nm, the typical value of the dispersion coefficient D is 17ps/nm-km, and the maximum value is generally not more than 20ps/nm-km.

G.652 fiber has two transmission Windows of 1310nm and 1550nm, with small dispersion but large decay loss at 1310nm, and small decay loss but large dispersion at 1550nm

 

G.655 Definition of Optical fibers:

The G.655 fiber is an improved dispersion-shifted fiber, which shifts the zero dispersion point from 1310nm to 1550nm, so that the dispersion and attenuation of the 1550nm window are very low; The G.655 fiber's dispersion at 1550nm is close to (but not equal to) zero, making it suitable for transmission over longer distances and for larger capacity applications

 

Dispersion of optical fibers

Different frequencies or modes in the optical pulse have different speeds in the fiber, so these frequency components and modes arrive at the end of the fiber first and then, so that the light pulse is widened, which is the dispersion of the fiber.

 

Dispersion compensation

Dispersion compensation is a technique developed in optical fiber communication technology to compensate for the signal distortion caused by the dispersion of light in the optical fiber. In order to maintain signal quality and improve optical fiber communication efficiency, it is necessary to compensate optical signal dispersion.

Single-mode fibers have dispersion in the C-Band, which limits the transmission distance and available bandwidth of the 1550nm fiber system. Using dispersion compensation fiber module (DCF, DCM) is the simplest, most economical and most effective method. It can not only effectively compensate the excess dispersion of standard single-mode fiber, but also 100% compensate the dispersion slope of standard single-mode fiber.

 

At present, there are two dispersion compensation fibers for different fiber types: G.652 dispersion compensation fiber and G.655 dispersion compensation fiber

G.652 DCM dispersion compensation fiber module is based on negative dispersion compensation fiber technology, which can effectively compensate the dispersion characteristics and dispersion tilt characteristics of G.652 standard single-mode fiber in the transmission band of 1525 ~ 1565nm

 

G.655 DCF dispersion compensation fiber module is specially designed for G.655 single-mode fiber C-band, which can compensate the dispersion and dispersion slope of the wide band, optimize the residual dispersion of the system, and improve the performance of the optical transmission system.
